Hard Refreshing

Sometimes GLYPH on the web needs an update, and to apply that update you may need to hard refresh the page. Your browser can hold on to an older, cached version of the app, which can lead to errors or missing features. A hard refresh clears that cached version and loads the latest one.

This is different from a normal refresh. A normal refresh may still use cached files. A hard refresh forces your browser to download a fresh copy.

Quick shortcuts​

For most browsers, these keyboard shortcuts do a hard refresh:

  • Mac: Command+Shift+R
  • Windows: Ctrl+Shift+R (or Ctrl+F5)

On some laptops you may need to hold the Fn key for the F5 shortcut to work.

If the shortcut does not work, use the browser-specific steps below.

Chrome (Edge and Brave)​

Keyboard: Command+Shift+R on Mac, or Ctrl+Shift+R (or Ctrl+F5) on Windows.

Mouse: hold the Shift key and click the reload icon in the address bar.

Firefox​

Keyboard: Command+Shift+R on Mac, or Ctrl+Shift+R (or Ctrl+F5) on Windows.

Mouse: hold the Shift key and click the reload button.

Safari​

Safari has a built-in hard refresh called Reload Page From Origin, which reloads the page and ignores the cache.

Keyboard: Command+Option+R.

Mouse: hold the Option key, open the View menu, and choose "Reload Page From Origin." You can also hold the Shift key and click the reload icon in the address bar.
